Dear Fellow-Sufferers and Rejoicers,

So it seems there are the two extremes and what lies down the middle. Some of your stories are truly heart-rending, even tragic when the love is turned off due to a WT devotee's strict adherence to shunning practices. Others have had the good fortune to have few if any toxic relationships. If so, they have certainly learned how to deal with those difficult relationships. Bottom line: put up or shut up, fight or flight, if you can't lick them, join them....

yes they did.. i felt sorry for the young woman as she was so nervous.

i took the 12/15 wt as she gave it to me.

i'll talk to her further if she comes back as my granddaughter was standing there w/me.. what surprised me was the paper is so cheap now and the ink smudges on your fingers.

So nice that this little tidbit [told me 15 December afternoon] came to mind while posting, Juni. This incident occurred when my friend was "a little girl" [age?], so I'm not sure if it was pre- or post-1975. However, she was very clear that her grandparents had received the visit of a young JW woman, who opened up to grandpa and expressed her doubts about the WT. I inferred that he, an evangelist for Campus Crusade for Christ [close to what I remember], gained the young woman's confidence through his kindly and spiritual manner. She returned more than once and eventually joined his church. It had to have been a big deal in my friend's family in that she brought it up readily when I told her of my exit from WT.

Since my "reverse-ministry" began, I have heard so many horror stories about the fruitage of the flesh, as expressed by active JWs. I mean ALL the fruits. My friend is sweet and not the least negative, but she confided that her JW workmate awhile back would stab you in the back to get ahead at the office. But otherwise, she seemed a "nice" person!

Should I be glad to live in a gated-community? Your mention of the poor, nervous girl made me think back 40 years ago when, out in service for the first time, I offered the WT and AWAKE! to a householder in San Francisco. The pioneer brother, who's still my best friend, looked on approvingly as I shook. Well, I called him last night [we're both inactive] and reminded him that he helped me in the "Truth" and he helped me out of it! He first sent me Terry's story a year ago and the rest is history. The reverse-ministry, which occupies me here daily at JWD, is the joy of my life and I just had to thank him!

That poor little girl. Hope you can help her if she returns. A friend told me that her G'pa helped a JW, while out in service, to leave the WT. She confided her doubts in him while at his door, and his kind and persuasive manner did the trick.

Good hearing from you! Since I don't have a printer, I take notes from the PC screen. When I began doing this a year ago, I didn't think to take down all the pertinent info re: links, etc. I do recall - pretty sure - that the title you see and page number are from a "secret," elders-only manual. What I copied was direct from the online source and put in quotes.

The point is to make the court see the child as normal and better off in a godly household. Gag. Can you believe a JW kid talking about the theatre and hopes of Broadway! Yeah, my love of the stage developed from all those JW dramas and skits I was in! Really.

Thank you for that clarification. The value of being on board here at JWD is that many heads come together on a matter and, more often than not, clarification of material results. Our MO must be different from that of the WT when it comes to researching any subject; believe me, I am learning critical thinking and am grateful for your gentle approach.

Thank you again for those links. I'm checking them out and will compare/contrast information with other sources under consideration. I keep in mind Mark Twain's words, mainly because science is not my area of expertise. I must do a great deal of comparative analysis before drawing any conclusion, if I truly ever can. I feel so overwhelmed!

There is something fascinating about science. One gets such wholesale returns

Dear Santisimo,

Have not yet read your links, but this post confirms what I heard on NPR two days ago. I only caught the tail-end but I heard 'children...died of AIDS' and a reference to legal action. I could not believe it, yet in a "conspiracy" FACT book that I am reading, the author discusses at length the introduction of the virus into various communities. I simply had not gotten around to verifying his sources. Thanx for this information!

Were You Ever Falsely Accused By The Elders Regarding Anything???

Hello Minimus,

In their inimitable fashion, using loophole-loaded language and cloaked meanings, the elders used a Sunday discourse and WT study to warn the congregation about the apostacy breeding in their midst. Comments were specific to me, but not mentioning me by name, of course. Their actions against me within and without the KH were meant to put me in my place, but on NO occasion did any elder ever approach me saying that there was a problem. The rank and file treated me as though there were no change in my status. Why couldn't the elders just have talked to me? Oh, yes, I was an "apostate" from WT rules and regulations, but not from what I understood Christianity to be. My friends and family loved and respected me. They didn't consider me a wayward son of a rebellious slave girl.
